All said and done
Over the past several months, I have been working on the Literature Review of my dissertation. A little over a month ago, the Institution Review Board at my doctoral program approved my proposal to conduct research. I am investigating the brain-based behavior of Emotional Disturbance, and specifically the Frontal Subcortical and Executive Functions involved with the condition.
There are a few things that I’ve noted as I’ve been writing profusely. We all have ideas, sometimes even amazing ideas, but unless you write about it or document it’s existence, the ideas remain just that, ideas. Nothing else. I imagine that the frustrating part for a lot of people is the writing. I, personally, love to write and have enjoyed keeping a journal of ideas since my own adolescence. The organzation of these journals is another question, perhaps a dissertation, in itself.
So, as I embark on the next large collection of writings, the dissertation, I reflect on all of the things I am thankful for in order to be at this juncture in my life. Ten years ago, I started the intention of going back to graduate school. However, I had no idea then that I would be completing a dissertation today. This is the power of intention that folks like Wayne Dyer preach about. I believe it is a powerful piece, however, the other part is getting it in writing and that is what I am all about. Today and for the next several months.
